A quick update from the “no fucking way are you serious I can barely contain myself I’m so fucking psyched” department: GUIDED BY VOICES ARE REUNITING FOR A FALL TOUR…..WITH THEIR “CLASSIC” LINEUP.
Wow. Talk about big news. The classic GBV lineup of, well, Robert Pollard and who the hell knows, will sweep through the states on a 16 date fall tour, starting Spet. 30 in Austin and wrapping up in New York City on November 7. The tour also includes a stop in Las Vegas for Matador Records’ 21st birthday bash, where they’ll play alongside the likes of Pavement, Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo among others.
For those poor souls who aren’t down with the GBV, the band started in 1984 in Dayton, Ohio and rose to icon status through the 90s and beyond, thanks largely in part to their insanely prolific output, their legendary live shows and a true hero of a frontman/songwriter in Pollard. The band gracefully ended their 21 year run with New Year’s Eve show at the Metro in Chicago in 2004, after which Pollard continued to release albums like bodily functions under his own name and as the Boston Spaceships. But goddamn is it good to have the real deal back together again. Reports indicate the “classic lineup” will be that from 1993-1996, during which time the band put out the fan favorites “Bee Thousand” (1994), “Alien Lanes” (1995) and “Under The Bushes, Under The Stars” (1996). All the more reason to get excited.
Alright, enough of my fanboy drooling. Tour dates!
